Abstract

The Community Survey on ICT usage in E-Commerce (hereafter: EUROSTAT ICT survey) is the survey on the information society in the European Union. Beginning with the year 2002, EUROSTAT develops a model questionnaire on the usage of information and communication technologies (ICT) in enterprises and households each year, the data on which are collected
by the national statistical offices of the member states. For INDICSER the survey on ICT usage on enterprises is relevant. An enterprise is a firm with all its establishments.

The objective of this note is to present the data sources, methodology and summary of an Internet-Based Index on ICT Usage (IICT). This indicator is developed based on the information available in the Eurostat ICT Survey, regarding the internet use by enterprises within the European Union. In particular, the data considered cover the period between the years 2002 and 2009. In terms of the geographical coverage the variables used for the indicator correspond to 13 countries with the information disaggregated for 18 industries based on the NACE 1.1 classification.
